3 free agents Boehly could target to go with £200m Chelsea war chest, including Kante's biggest fan

CHELSEA HAVE FINALLY GOT THEMSELVES A NEW OWNER!

After what felt like an eternity, Todd Boehly’s consortium sealed the approval of the UK government and the Premier League to officially take over the Blues.

Boehly’s attempts to secure Stamford Bridge and all its treasures started in March and only concluded earlier today.

Despite being in and around the club for the past few weeks, the American can now push to move his newly acquired project forward.

Whilst there are plenty of matters to address, supporters will be demanding one thing above anything else: new signings.

Thomas Tuchel’s squad clearly requires a revamp, either to replace departing players or provide competition to those still stationed at Cobham.

It has been reported that Boehly will provide Tuchel with £200m to splash this summer, with several significant names already being weighed up.

However, big spending does not always mean a big reward.

Or the £210m (GOAL) Frank Lampard spent in 2020, with only a handful of the recruits justifying the huge expenditure.

Therefore, Boehly might approach the market with a little more caution than his predecessor.

To help out the new owner, we have listed a selection of free agents or players with expiring contracts he could target to save a few pennies.

Paul Pogba

Paul Pogba pretty much splits opinion right down the middle.

Either you love the France international, or you feel the exact opposite.

His talent cannot be disputed, it’s what he does with it that has people leaping from their seats in a fit of rage.

But on the very best of days, there aren’t many more delightful on the eye than the Manchester United midfielder.

Sadly, these moments of magic have been few and far between recently.

Pogba only made 16 Premier League starts in a season stunted by injury, in what could be his last for the Red Devils.

The 29-year-old’s contract expires next month and despite Erik ten Haag taking over, the suggestion is he will still pack his bags.

Which could be music to the ears of several top European clubs, including Chelsea, who must at least admire an individual of such quality.

Especially if this individual has an undying love for a member of Tuchel’s pack.

“I said a long time ago that it would be appropriate, if Chelsea won (the Champions League), for him to win the Ballon d’Or. It would be deserved too,” said Pogba on N’Golo Kante last May.

Kante and his fellow Frenchman have such a strong bond on the international scene, who says they couldn’t do it domestically as well?

Paulo Dybala

Whilst there is still some debate over whether Pogba will stay at United, Paulo Dybala’s future is slightly more black and white.

Dybala confirmed his decision to leave Juventus after seven years, playing his final match for the Serie A side on Saturday.

His farewell campaign was largely spent on the treatment table, however he still scored 15 times and provided six assists across all competitions.

Where he will be heading next remains a mystery, although there have been claims that Chelsea could launch an attack on the Argentine’s signature.

Although Tuchel’s front line is already well-stocked, apart from Mason Mount, an all-round creator and scorer is missing.

Stay fit and Dybala could provide that additional attacking spark.

James Tarkowski

Some of you might roll your eyes at this suggestion, but hear us out.

Above all, Chelsea are desperate to add some more defenders to their ranks.

Yes, they could pay vast sums for Jules Kounde or Josko Gvardiol and hopefully reap the rewards.

Alternatively, the hierarchy could look closer to home at a player with bags of Premier League experience.

James Tarkowski has played nearly 200 top-flight games for Burnley, reaching +30 appearances in five consecutive campaigns.

He is regularly amongst the best performing centre-backs in the division in terms of blocks, clearances and aerial duels won.

This season alone he topped the shots blocked (61) and aerials won (153) category, as well as coming second for clearances (183).

Tarkowski’s contract with newly-relegated Burnley expires next month and he will surely be looking for an instant return to the Premier League.

If Chelsea are after a ‘proper defender’, then he is your man
