Liverpool chairman shares what Todd Boehly is already planning at Chelsea after conversation this week

Liverpool chairman Tom Werner knows Todd Boehly has already initiated plans to change Stamford Bridge following discussions with the new Chelsea owner.

Speaking to The Athletic, Werner revealed that he and his fellow American had spoken a few times ahead of the ownership change in South West London.

After several months of deliberation, disruption and delegation, Boehly’s consortium have finally been given the keys to Roman Abramovich’s kingdom.

They received the approval from the UK government and the Premier League, meaning the group can now start properly planning the future of the club.

A lot of Boehly’s focus will be on turning Thomas Tuchel’s squad into a title-winning one, after falling so far behind Manchester City and Liverpool.

Therefore, it is no surprise that Boehly conversed with those behind FSG, as a way to possibly pinch and revamp some of their ideas.

“John Henry and I have known and admired Todd from his association with the Los Angeles Dodgers,” explained Werner, who is also the chairman for the Bost Red Sox.

“I’ve had a couple of conversations with him in the last week. He was just picking my brain.

“I think he will be good for Chelsea. I know they are working right now on a stadium solution. I think he will prove to be an excellent owner.”

It’s time to renovate

Aside from improving the team on the pitch, Boehly clearly has the renovation of Stamford Bridge in his sights.

Despite Chelsea’s elite English and European status, their stadium is one of the smallest in the Premier League.

The Blues have been forced to watch on in envy whilst Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and West Ham United have all moved into new London homes.

But this could all change now Abramovich is out of the way, with the Russian previously preventing the Bridge from being renovated.

Increasing the seating capacity should be on the agenda, with the ground currently holding around 41,000.

With Champions League football returning to a corner of the capital, more bums on seats would be welcomed.

Especially after many of the chairs were empty towards the latter stage of the season, due to the sanctions imposed by the government.
